Yoga was not just overcome fatigue, but also create a better quality of life . The benefits , especially breast cancer survivors felt and is undergoing radiation therapy . Once the results of research experts from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center .The
initial discovery was reported in 2011 by Lorenzo Cohen , Ph.D. ,
professor and director of the Integrative Medicine Program at MD
Anderson , and now published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology
released Eurekalert 4 March 2014. This study is part of an effort to validate the mind-body
interventions scientifically in cancer patients and conducted in
collaboration with the largest yoga research institution in India ,
Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana in Bangalore , India .This study also assesses , for the first time , the benefits of yoga
in cancer patients by comparing their experience with patients in the
control group more active ." Combining mind-body exercises that are part of yoga clearly has
great potential to help patients manage the psychosocial and physical
distress associated treatment and life after cancer . Advantage far
beyond than just stretching , " said Cohen .The study involved 191 women with breast cancer (stage 0-3 ) . They were randomly divided into three groups . Group 1 runs yoga , group 2 did light stretching , and group 3 with no command to yoga or stretching .
Participants
in the yoga and stretching groups attended sessions specifically
radiase therapy about 1 hour , 3 days a week for 6 weeks . Participants
were then asked to report on the quality of life , including fatigue
and depression levels , daily activities , and the ability to interpret
the experience of pain experienced . Samples of saliva were collected and electrocardiogram tests given at
the beginning , the end of the study and at one , three and six months
post- treatment .
The woman who runs yoga , kortisolnya levels dropped significantly during the study . This indicates that yoga has the ability to help regulate levels of the stress hormone . This condition is very important because the stress hormone levels
higher throughout the day ( blunted circadian cortisol rhythm ) , is
associated with poor conditions in breast cancer .
Upon completion of radiation therapy sessions , only in groups 1 and 2 who reported a reduction in fatigue . At
one , three and six months after the radiation session , the women in
group 1 ( yoga ) during the treatment period reported experiencing
better conditions related to physical functioning and general health . They are also more able to make sense of the experience of living with cancer than other groups .
Cohen
also noted that this study suggests that the development of the
practice of yoga can also help patients after cancer treatment . The transition from active treatment into daily life can be stressful . This is because the patient no longer receive the attention and care in the same portion as the time still treated in full . Teaches patients techniques such as mind-body yoga as troubleshooting skills can make the transition easier . Once noted Cohen . ( SDJ )
