Although coconut oil is one of the highest known sources of saturated fat, it’s actually harmless and beneficial! Here’s why:
LOSE WEIGHT
The fat content of coconut oil easily converted into energy. More so,
in fact, than any other fat. This is due to what are called Medium Chain
Triglycerides. These medium chain fatty acids go straight to the liver
where they’re used as a quick source of energy and not straight to your
heart and arteries!
Even more, these fatty acids have been shown
to increase the energy spent by your body in a 24 hour period by 5%.
This may not sound like much, but it’s equal to half a candy bar. It’s
not difficult to see that over a longer time, this could lead to weight
loss.
ANTI VIRAL AND ANTI BACTERIAL
Yes, it’s true. Coconut oil contains substances that can kill bacteria and viruses.
EPILEPSY
It’s well known that a high fat, low carbohydrate diet reduces
epileptic fits in children and it’s also been shown that coconut oil as
the fat source is far more successful than any other.
ALZHEIMER’S
Immediate improvement of brain function was noted after consumption of
medium chain triglycerides, such as those found in coconut oil.
CANDIDA
The antiviral and antifungal properties of coconut oil have been shown
to be effective against the uncontrolled growth of the yeast, candida
albicans, in the stomach. Candida, as it’s called, results in upsetting
conditions such as bladder and urinary tract infections.
One of
the medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil is called capric acid.
It’s this fatty acid that’s been shown to be effective against candida.
DIABETES
Insulin secretion and blood sugar control are some of the benefits
you’d get from consuming coconut oil. Very helpful for diabetics and
even pre-diabetics.
KIDNEY STONES
You can dissolve kidney stones with coconut oil!
LIVER
The workload of the liver can be reduced if you were to take coconut oil as it’s so easily converted into energy.
OSTEOPOROSIS
Coconut oil is known to prevent mineral loss from the bones, helping those prone to osteoporosis.
For these reasons, it can also protect your teeth too.
With all these benefits from coconut oil you may want to include more
of it in your diet. But the choices can be bewildering, so which type do
you choose? Here is a guide:
PURE COCOCNUT OIL: Unrefined, solid with no additives. Can be eaten and even used as hair oil or massage oil.
REFINED COCONUT OIL: As the name suggests, it’s been refined to make it
thin and clear. This is very good for cooking as there is no coconut
taste or smell.
VIRGIN COCONUT OIL: Drawn from fresh coconut
flesh during which little or no heat is used. This is the best type and
also has the best antimicrobial properties. So called ‘extra virgin
coconut oil’ is not usually sold by reputable firms as there isn’t a
standard for ‘virginity’ of the oil, so it probably doesn’t even exist
except as a ploy to make you buy it.
ORGANIC COCONUT OIL
Really the same as the virgin type with the exception that the coconuts
are grown organically. Although it’s rare it can probably be said that
it’s the BEST.
